This is a joint physics and mathematics research program focused on the interplay between quantum field theory, topology, higher category theory and representation theory. We call for a permanent position as Associate Professor in mathematics within the field of Algebra and its applications. We are particularly interested in strengthening the research activities within the Lie-Størmer Center for Fundamental Structures in Computational and Pure Mathematics. Within the framework of the ARC project “From algebra to combinatorics, and back”, financed by the “Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles" is launched a call for postdoctoral position at the Université Libre de Bruxelles.

Profile We look for a strong candidate working in the field of algebra, combinatorics or their interactions. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the above mentioned research project, under supervision of one or several of the project’s PIs (Michele D’Adderio, Dimitri Leemans, Špela Špenko and Joost Vercruysse).

Key-words of the research project are : Non-commutative geometry, noncommutative crepant resolutions, toric varieties, combinatorial representation theory, (partial) representations of groups and Hopf algebras, (partial) actions of groups and Hopf algebras on algebras and abstract polytopes, Tannakian duality, categorification.

Eligibility PhD : In order to be eligible for this grant, the candidate should have obtained a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) strictly before the start of the contract. Mobility constraint : In the last 3 years before the start of the contract, the candidate should not have resided or worked in Belgium for more than 24 months. The contract of the successful candidate can start on any preferred date between March 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021.

Our offer The successful candidate will work in the research group “algebra and combinatorics” of the department of Mathematics at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Brussels, Belgium). There will be a 1-year contract and if both parties are content and the eligibility criteria (see “mobility constraint" above) are still fulfilled, the contract can be renewed for another year. There is a competitive salary (over 2.300 eur Net) and the candidate can make use of all facilities of the University. The grant is equipped with a travel grant of 2.500 euro (per year) which the candidate can use to travel and attending conferences or to invite collaborators. Within the research group additional funding is available if there would be more needs. The grant does not come with teaching obligations, although some sporadic (logistic) help for the department (eg. surveillance during exam session) is appreciated.

SISSA Mathematical Fellowships DESCRIPTION

SISSA Mathematical Fellowships are 3-years post-doctoral positions for promising early stage researchers in Mathematics. The SISSA Mathematical fellowships are not restricted to a specific research theme, but are intended to give to promising, highly qualified, early stage researchers the opportunity to independently pursue their own research and to enlarge their research profile by interacting with top-leading scientists. SISSA provides an international multidisciplinary research environment with several research level courses and seminars. The successful candidates will benefit from the interaction with SISSA faculties and students, and with the several scientists visiting SISSA every year. Starting from 2018 there will be a yearly call for two fellowships. Positions will customary start in October, but different arrangements will be possible. The appointments will last up to three years and will be provided with a competitive salary together with a research grant that can be autonomously used by the post-doc in order to independently pursue her/his own research. Teaching research level courses will also be possible, but there is no obligation. Fellowships will usually start in October, but different arrangements are possible.

As part of the recently funded DATASIG program (A joint EPSRC funded project between Oxford, Imperial College, and University College London with a hub at the Alan Turing Institute ; EPSRC Reference:EP/S026347/1) we are currently looking to appoint up to four postdoctoral positions. We are looking for strong individuals able to develop and bridge between mathematics (rough paths) and ML applications, for example in mental health and gesture recognition. There is a vacancy for a postdoctoral fellowship starting in fall 2019 funded by my research project “Higher category theory meets quantum field theory” at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, funded by the Bergen Research Foundation. The position is for three years with teaching (4 courses) or two years without teaching. The funded project lies at the intersection of mathematical physics and algebraic topology, more precisely in the mathematical study of field theories using methods from homotopy theory.

Applications are invited for two 3-year postdoc positions on the EPSRC Programme Grant "Enhancing Representation Theory, Noncommutative Algebra and Geometry through Moduli, Stability and Deformations". One post is based at the University of Edinburgh, one post is based at the University of Glasgow. A Ph.D. in Mathematics is required, with preference for applicants who have research experience in Algebra, Symbolic Computation, or related fields. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about differential algebra and/or difference algebra. Previous experience with computer algebra software would be helpful.

The duties for this position include : conduct research in topics relevant to the algebraic theory of differential and/or difference equations, prepare and submit research results for publication, and disseminate research results in seminars, colloquia, and conferences.
