This is to announce the opening for 11 PhD Fellowships in "Mathematics in Natural, Social and Life Sciences" at Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) starting in November 2022. The application must be submitted through the online form available at https://applications.gssi.it/phd/ by June 1st, 2022 at 3 pm (Italian time zone). The fellowships are awarded for 4 years and their yearly amount is € 16.159,91 gross. All PhD students have free accommodation, free luncheon vouchers and use of the canteen. The official language for the PhD course is English.

The 11 PhD Fellowships are divided in the following way :
- 8 regular scholarships within the programme "Mathematics in Natural, Social and Life Sciences"
- 1 scholarship funded by Leonardo S.p.A. “Development of methods to evaluate the capabilities of quantum hardware of the Quantum Annealer type in solving combinatorial optimization problems in various areas of interest for Leonardo ; examples of possible areas of investigation are linear algebra, logistics, computer vision” ;
- 2 scholarships funded by ERC project “CARDIOTRIALS -CARDIac simulations to run in-silicO clinical TRIALS”

Notice that it is possible to apply both for regular GSSI fellowships, the project funded by Leonardo S.p.A. and the ERC-funded fellowships, by submitting three different applications.

Upcoming opening for the PhD Fellowships in "Mathematics in Natural, Social and Life Sciences" at Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) starting in November 2022.

The application procedure will start around mid-May 2022 and it will be possible to apply until around mid-June. Below you may find some information, more details will follow when approaching the official call.

We encourage students who might be potentially interested in this application to contact us by sending an email to : phd.math@gssi.it. The email should include a detailed CV, their master thesis work (or a brief abstract that outlines the subject studied there), possible publications (articles, preprints, etc), possibly a brief research statement and (up to 3) contacts of Professors who can provide a recommendation letter for you.

The Institute of Discrete Mathematics, the Institute of Geometry, and the Institute of Software Technology at the Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) in Austria invite applications for one PhD position and one postdoc position on any of the following areas :

- combinatorics and free-probability. To work with Cesar Ceballos and Franz Lehner.

- combinatorics, discrete geometry, and algorithms. To work with Oswin Aichholzer and Cesar Ceballos.

The successful candidates will be located at TU-Graz, and will be associated to the PAGCAP project which is founded by FWF and ANR.

The PhD position is a 3-year position with a gross monthly income of 2.237,60 EUR (14x a year), a potential starting date is October 1st, 2022. A master degree obtained before the beginning of the job is required for this position.

The postdoc position is a 2-year position with a gross monthly income of 3.945,90 EUR (14x a year) and a flexible starting date.

The research group on Free Probability at Saarland University, Saarbrucken, Germany is offering a 3-year PhD position on the interrelations between free probability, random matrices, and neural networks. The position is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG. It is payed as a 75% position by German standards (E13 TV-L). There are no teaching duties. German language skills are welcome but not obligatory. Applicants should have an equivalent of a Master’s degree and a background in at least one of the subjects : (i) free probability, (ii) random matrices, (iii) neural networks ; and an interest in learning the remaining ones and, in particular, in working on their interrelations. Open call for applications for a PhD fellowship at NTNU, financed by the Norwegian research project "Computational Dynamics and Stochastics on Manifolds” (CODYSMA) :

The main objective of the CODYSMA project is to develop novel mathematical tools and numerical algorithms for analysis and solution of stochastic and deterministic differential equations on manifolds. The project is a cooperation between NTNU, Trondheim and the University of Bergen (one PhD position is announced in each site). Research tasks for the PhD project will be adapted to the applicant. Possible topics are numerical analysis of differential equations, with a focus on geometric and algebraic aspects, S(P)DEs, rough paths and renormalization.

UC|UP Joint PhD Program in Mathematics 2019/2020

The UC|UP Joint PhD Program in Mathematics, run by the Universities of Coimbra and Porto, in Portugal, welcomes applications for the academic year of 2019/2020.

SISSA, the International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste.

SISSA has a long and important tradition in higher academic training. In this respect the following initiatives might be of interest :

Young talented students will receive a fellowship and attend additional courses held by SISSA faculties. - PHD PROGRAMS : since many years our doctoral school has two renowned curricula in mathematics, "Geometry and Mathematical Physics" and "Mathematical Analysis, Modeling, and Applications". 2 PhD positions within Einstein Visiting Fellow programme at TU Berlin are opened. The scholarships is granted for 3 years and amounts to about 1.450 Euro per month (tax free, no insurances included) starting April 2018. The PhD student is supposed to settle at TU Berlin.

PhD student position 1 : A PhD scholarship is available in the framework of the Einstein Visiting Fellow programme at TU Berlin within the Collaborative Research Center ”Control of self-organizing nonlinear systems : Theoretical methods and concepts of application”. A successful candidate is supposed to work under the supervision of Eduard Feireisl on problems related to the mathematical theory of fluid mechanics. Basic knowledge of PDE’s and functional analysis, including the framework of Sobolev spaces and weak solutions is required. The emphasis will be put on the concept of generalized solutions, their stability and asymptotic behavior under general stochastic perturbations. PhD student position 2 : A PhD scholarship is available in the framework of the Einstein Visiting Fellow programme at TU Berlin within the Collaborative Research Center ”Control of self-organizing nonlinear systems : Theoretical methods and concepts of application”. A successful candidate is supposed to work under the supervision of Eduard Feireisl on problems related to the mathematical theory of fluid mechanics.
